It is an honor and privilege to serve as the President of the Haitian American Kidney Association (HAKA) since the beginning of February 2017. I am deeply grateful and humbled to the founder and the board of directors for providing me with this opportunity.

HAKA is a nonprofit (501(c)(3) organization registered in the States of Delaware and New York. It was founded in August 2014 by William D. Isaacson, Ph.D. Its vision is to establish partnerships for the purpose of funding state-of-the-art medical information, materials and equipment to ensure consistent quality healthcare to those who suffer from renal disease in underserved areas in the Republic of Haiti and in the USA.

To accomplish its mission, HAKA is now working with the Saint Francois De Sales Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to receive a $400,000.00 grant from the Organization of American States.

The new members of our board are engaged in strategic planning to formalize the future of HAKA. Our main concerns are to reinforce the association memberships and partnerships and serve our community as second to none. The Association is also working to launch our new updated website so we can promote education and treatment with the focus on kidney disease.

I am proud to report some highlights of our achievements and successes during the past year.  I was able to work with the administration of Saint Francois de Sales in Port-au-Prince to write the project for the grant application. HAKA has been registered to conduct business in New York State by the Attorney General.

As we come into this new year of 2018, I urge all to become involved with HAKA and spread the word to your colleagues and friends so they can join us. We are reaching out to other non-profit organizations, health professionals and other agencies who are involved with kidney disease to accompany us on this journey. I welcome all new board members and am looking forward to working with each of you.
